The institutes of analytical, inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry merged in 1999 to form the institute of chemistry (IfC) - thus ensuring a strong and solid foundation to be a competitive research and teaching institution within an international context.
In 2004 the heads of the University of Graz and the University of Technology of Graz decided the amalgamation of several institutes, among them also the insitute of chemistry. This was the basis for the so-called "joint faculty of natural science" (NAWI Graz). The cooperation between the universities led to a sustained strengthening of the university location. We attach particular importance to teach and promote the next generation of researchers, therefore we offer a environment for ambitious scientists, in which they can develop to an optimum level.
